GRIEF IS HAVING HER WAY WITH ME
I have dreams I don’t remember
And plans I cannot keep
I fight but then surrender
The feelings go so deep
I make lists and then ignore them
Except when I can’t sleep
Grief is having her way with me
And won’t let go
There are weeds throughout the garden
And dishes in the sink
If I’m rude, I beg your pardon - it’s hard to even think
The season’s keep on changing while I totter on the brink…
Grief is having her way with me
And won’t let go
I wait for her to soften
She will someday, I know
I often sit in silence
Unable to form words
For grief is having her way with me, in case you hadn’t heard
Yes, grief is having her way with me and will not be deterred
There are calls I do not answer
And texts I do not hear
Maybe I’ll respond to them
Within the coming year
For now I love the silence
The quiet from the storm
I know that as an old one dies
A brand new one is born
Grief is having her way with me
And won’t let go
I wait for her to soften
She will someday, I know
She will someday, I know
